Have you considered your search engine position?

Here is your scenario: You have decided that you are going to do some search engine optimisation to get your site into the search engines, having worked hard for months you finally find yourself on page one of Google you wait a month or two to see how much extra traffic you receive because of your new results and to your surprise it has had little affect on both your traffic and your conversions. Well here is something to consider; are you actually being seen in the position that you are in?

Most of the website designers today will design your website to be viewed in the resolution screen size of 1024 x 768 to ensure that your site is seen as it should be and that your visitor gets the most out of your website. Whilst there a very few people in the world that are currently using a screen resolution of less than this there are still a few. Take a look at the image below to view the results from a Google search.

You will see from this that different monitors will see varying amounts of a search on Google itself. If designers are considering screen size for your website then you should be considering screen size for your SEO marketing!

As discussed the screen size developers use is 1024x768(statistically one in two users currently have this resolution monitor) which means that if the user is trying to find you with this screen size and there are three Pay Per Click adverts then the searcher will only be able to view the top three positioned organic search results. Additionally if the searcher has a screen resolution of 1600 x 900 they would be able to see the top five results; yes we understand that they can scroll down to see more results but searchers are lazy the majority of the time, remember this!

What does this mean to you; well if you are positioned below the top three/five then your users will not be seeing you immediately, inturn this leads to your competitors being seen before you; meaning that they can grab the sale before you have even had a site view. Additionally if you do get the visit your competitors sales patter and information is stored in your potential customers head before they can even read yours. This leads to an uphill battle for you to sell your product!

Summary: When you are considering search engine optimisation you also need to consider screen resolution to improve your results; by improving your position in the search engines, will lead to an improvement to the traffic that you receive from the given keyword phrase which in turn will lead you to greater sales results, it's not just about being on page one to see the best results it's about being in the top three!
